The Day Houston Became Screwed Up- June 27th. To some it is just another day on a calendar, while for others, it is a day to celebrate another year of living. For the the city of Houston, Texas, neither one of those notions comes close to what this day actually means. June 27th is not only a symbol, but a perception of a way of life, and an embodiment of a culture. It represents the love and appreciation one has for their city, the music, the inspiration, and the infamous screw. One may ask, how did such a think come about, and the answer given would simply be because of the legendary Dj Screw, (Robert Earl Davis Jr.) followed by a confused look questioning why that was not known in the first place. Dj Screw along with the rest of the S.U.C (Screwed Up Click) created the infamous track, June 27th, and embodied the essence of what Houston and its music is known to be; slowed down and screwed up. The deaths of these legends did not stop this movement, but only amplified it, as this day was created to give tribute to the fallen legends. This movement has influenced a city and will continue to do so for the generations to come. I have decided to give my own little tribute for our fallen legends by asking fellow Houstonians to express what June 27th means to them. Kellyn McKay: June 27th means a lot to me, because its a day that everyone gets to show their appreciation for Houston. “I have so much love for my city and how it has shaped me. Blake Campbell: June 27th is a day celebrating the moment you feel a sense of comfort, the moment you see the Houston skyline, or the moment your at a party and here, slow loud and baggin all in my trunk. So you see today is not just another day in the city of Houston, Texas. No, today is the day where the people come together, celebrate and reminisce on what it is they love so much about being apart of the city, its culture, and its way of life. For the folks who are reading this, and have never heard about the significance of this day, listen well, understand, and do one simple thing. Embrace it. As your riding in your car, raise down your window, turn up the radio, and slowly begin to bob your head to beat of Dj Screw.
What To Do: 1. Take a slice of chicken breast and begin to chop it up into bits and pieces. Once your done, measure to see if accumulates to 1 cup, and if not chop up some more! 2. Gather your spices, and shake each one unto your chicken. ( no particular order, season that chicken like you mean it) 3. Place olive oil in a pan and let it fry till cooked. 4. While the chicken cooks, bring water to boil and place your 1 1/2 cup of pasta in your pot, until it begins to soften. 5. (Your almost done!) Take your lettuce wedge and chop into slices, as if seen on a salad. This is going to be your bottom layer, so place it across the plate once your finished. 6. Once done, place the pasta over the lettuce, and then after your chicken (in that order) 7. Chop up some tomatoes, sprinkle some cheese, drop a scoop of cottage cheese, and lather your dressing all over to finish it off! Send me your comments and feedback from my Korner to yours!

The Fault in our Stars is a witty, and heartfelt tale about two young adults who fall madly in love with each other, but under unfortunate circumstances. Shailene Woodley plays the role of Hazel Grace, a determined teenager, who without a doubt, faces whatever comes her way, (whether it be good or bad) head first and strong. Ansel Elgort plays the role of Gus, the charismatic, and optimistic young fellow, who comes into Hazel’s life (the good) and changes her world completely. Director Josh Boone does a great job of creating an unique story-line within this movie. He takes a sensitive topic, and adds humor to it, and gives the audience a sense of real-ness from each character, at which you may even be able to connect to. An emotional roller coaster is what you will endure, once you take your seat in the movie theater. Due to laughing, frustration, and yes you guessed it crying, a box of tissue and aspirin is well recommended. I must inform you, this movie is not only aimed at the female audience, but for all who are intrigued to see it. I do highly recommend all my gentlemen out there to view it, because you might learn a tip or two. (hint hint) Overall this movie deserves a couple pats on the back and a job well done to Director, Josh Boone, and the many actors and actresses that took on the roles of each character. There was no fault for me in this film.
Smack dead in the middle of the Las Vegas strip, is a quirky unique restaurant by the name of Serendipity 3. Here, you not only get a good meal, you receive an experience. From the up-beat energy of the waiters, to the creative presentation of the each individual plate, Serendipity assures that you enjoy your stay. On my visit I was accompanied by a group of friends, and instead of ordering a regular burger like everyone else, I chose to be the daring one and order the infamous Hang-Over Omelet. At first glance of its description, i will admit, i was a bit hesitant, I mean who eats an omelet with fries..right? But hey, do as the Romans do, and so I did. I will say I did right. The Hang Over Omelet is every bit of cheesy goodness, since it is indulge with cheddar cheese from east to west (if lactose intolerant-beware) in order to mix with its extra ingredients; chopped up bacon and French fries- yes I said it, full potato French fries. At first I was a little taken back by the frenchy addition, but the ingredients mixed so well and was indeed very fulling. I even added a bit of hot sauce to give a little kick to it, I’m sure salsa or any other omelet add-ons would be just fine. Overall my first time experience was pretty good, and I wouldn’t hesitate to stop by again on my next time visit to the infamous Sin City. Next time your in Las Vegas be sure to check it out and get your take on The Hangover, or anything else thats on the menu (good reviews on the burger) and when you do, come back to the Korner and let me hear all about it!xoxo, kareem
